Community, Confidence & Support

Community: McNair Scholars become part of a local and national community of Scholars that celebrates diversity and interdisciplinarity and who are focused on their shared goals of pursuing graduate education and becoming the next generation of future professors and researchers.

Confidence: The McNair Scholars Program creates a culture of success among first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented minority students pursuing degrees in higher education. By participating in the McNair Program and summer research experience and by having the opportunity to present their research at conferences, Scholars gain confidence they can handle graduate-level work and research.

Support: Scholars receive individualized support and encouragement from the McNair Program staff, faculty and graduate student mentors, and are provided with the necessary tools for the successful transition from undergraduate to graduate school and beyond.

The photo portrays the community that McNair Scholars build within their cohorts. After spending the summer conducting research, they travel with their fellow scholars to present their research at a national McNair conference. This photo was taken at the University of California-Los Angeles National McNair Conference.
